Highlights – Lora Leigh’s 2013 Reader Appreciation Weekend

I had a blast at the recent Lora Leigh’s Reader Appreciation Weekend bash!!

Lexi Blake and I traveled together from Texas to Maryland. After flying into Dulles, we drove the beautiful countryside from DC to Hagerstown. We were super excited to reach the convention, so we didn’t stop at even one of the many wineries along our route. They were awfully inviting, but we were good…for the moment.

The meet-and-greet sessions by the pool were one of the highlights of the trip for me. It’s always a joy to meet readers, visit, sign books, and take pictures.

Wonderful evening events of chatting and dancing included a princess-themed welcome bash, an awesome 80’s get together, and a pajama party! I saw so many old friends and met quite a few new ones. RAW is a smaller gathering that allows for lots of conversation and zaniness. And we took full advantage!

A highlight for me was Red Hot Pictionary. The author charade portion (mainly Lexi Blake, Mari Carr, Carrie Ann Ryan, and me!) put Pictionary into the over-the-top awesome category! Lots of laughter, tons of fun, and a little naughtiness ensued!

Hanging out with readers and fellow authors is always so much fun. Thank you to Lora for having me! A special thanks to all of the readers who made RAW 2013 so memorable!!

  4. Oy – I never really asked anything other than MAY I PLEASE GET SOME BOOKS OR SWAG TO GIVE AWAY ON OUR BLOG / FB PAGE :)
I would be way too embarrassed to ask it face to face :)
But maybe – the most important thing for me would be to know how the Author imagines the main characters to look like – as in – they tell me the name of a famous person – :) that way I have a picture in my mind – and if it doesn’t agree with my picture – that’s ok too :) hehe

  5. Hi Shayla,

I always love to hear where authors get their inspiration for books and characters.

  6. can I have your autograph?… No really, I think it depends on the author. Sometimes I wonder how they came up with the story idea and sometimes I just want to know when the next book comes out! Thanks for the chance to win!

  7. Ashley Bateman says:

  23. Cathy Lasky says:

I am fascinated with the story behind the stories. I love to hear how an idea came about, what inspires a writer, when did they decide to write. If I really enjoy a book, I love to read and hear anything I can about that author. I don’t know how to explain this correctly, but I find, if I know a little about the author I get more emotional and feel the characters of the book more so then one I read for just entertainment. Hope that made sense. Thank you for the opportunity to win.

  30. In character development when do you know you have taken us too far inside the character

  31. I would absolutely love to sit down, with cosmos and find out exactly what it takes to write a book that is as erotic and hot as you ladies make it! 34. Jenni Jacobs says:

I like asking authors about their inspiration for characters. Really anything to get them talking about my favorite book that that author wrote. I love discussing the ideas behind the story and the characters and the. Gushing over what parts I loved and I now I saw different things I the story. It makes me feel less nerdy when I have someone to talk passionately with about a book or a plot or anything that has to do with romance novels!
Seriously though I’m so jealous of all the people that got to go! Wish I could have been there, it looks and sounds like it was a load of fun!

    I’m jealous–I couldn’t go. I hope you had a great time.

  69. Wow, thanks for the hitting the highlights, Shayla! I keep hearing great things about that weekend, and hope to be able to make it one of these years–I’d LOVE to meet some of you amazing authors in person! As for favorite question to ask an author, I’m not sure–there are so many, and each author obviously has different answers! I do like seeing whether an author’s based any characters on people s/he knows in real life, and whether anyone’s claimed to recognize him/herself from their writing :) Thanks for making time to answer fan questions AND for continuing to write those great stories!

My favorite question is (depending on the author and if they write erotica): How did you tell your family the type of books that you were going to start writing? And I love to read your books. They are really great books. Thanks for writing as much as you do. But another question I ask is: can’t you write just a little bit quicker? LOL I hate to finish one becuase I know how long I have to wait for another one.

  72. Looks like you ladies had a lot of fun!

My question would be, is there any consensual sex act that you won’t write about? And why not?

  73. Angie Turner says:

When you write, do you “live in the story” as much as your readers do? If so, is it all consuming until you get it done or just bursts of inspiration? I know you can’t just write a book in one setting but is it always with you? :-)

  74. Where do you ladies get the ideas or inspiration when you write these love scenes because some of them are scorching HOT?!?!!?!?! Love all you beautiful ladies btw. Keep on writing because I will definitely kept on buying!!!

Thanks for the opportunity for this awesome giveaway. You are awesome sauce and I love your books! 😀

As most of them are very erotic and I will say very pleasing to read and cover most of the fantasies most women have. I have read all of your books and Lora Leigh’s books along with many other authors as I tend to do nothing but read almost everyday. I really hope I win.

  77. I have to say I love the books you women write!. I also have to ask, what are your favorite books to read?

  82. When you start writing a story, do you have an idea in your head and just start writing, or do you outline the story and then write based on that?

I always want to know how the writers come up with their ideas.

  84. jodi marinich says:

would always ask where does their inspirations come from especially the sexy scenes

  85. Debbie Saraceni says:

What a great giveaway….love both your books!!! :)

  91. What’s your favorite drink?

How do you decide what book you are going to write next?

  99. I’ve been going to multi-author signings lately with a lot of unknown to me authors. So I usually have been asking what it is they write about. But my follow up question is almost always “is it a stand alone?” Hmmm…so boring. Going to another signing this weekend, need to come up with better questions :)

  100. Linda Robinson says:

One thing I have to say is the fact that you all welcome us into your world and see how its the same world. My main question is about research do you see something and then it comes to you to fit a character or are certain aspects an interest of the authors to explore safely . Does that make sense ??

  110. Tonda Pasowicz says:

How do you sleep with so many ideas going threw your head?

  111. I am so upset when I read about this genre of books and they refer to them as cheap or whatever comment meant to set low the bow for the job you writers have done. I have to say I do have read some cheesy books. Though I’m all for digital self-publishing (I have three books out myself) I don’t like the lack of editing and lack of grammar that is sometimes found in these books. I never have to worry about that with you all. Thanks for keeping me entertained!!
