Highlights – Lora Leigh’s 2013 Reader Appreciation Weekend

I had a blast at the recent Lora Leigh’s Reader Appreciation Weekend bash!!

Lexi Blake and I traveled together from Texas to Maryland. After flying into Dulles, we drove the beautiful countryside from DC to Hagerstown. We were super excited to reach the convention, so we didn’t stop at even one of the many wineries along our route. They were awfully inviting, but we were good…for the moment.

The meet-and-greet sessions by the pool were one of the highlights of the trip for me. It’s always a joy to meet readers, visit, sign books, and take pictures.

Wonderful evening events of chatting and dancing included a princess-themed welcome bash, an awesome 80’s get together, and a pajama party! I saw so many old friends and met quite a few new ones. RAW is a smaller gathering that allows for lots of conversation and zaniness. And we took full advantage!

A highlight for me was Red Hot Pictionary. The author charade portion (mainly Lexi Blake, Mari Carr, Carrie Ann Ryan, and me!) put Pictionary into the over-the-top awesome category! Lots of laughter, tons of fun, and a little naughtiness ensued!

Hanging out with readers and fellow authors is always so much fun. Thank you to Lora for having me! A special thanks to all of the readers who made RAW 2013 so memorable!!

  2. LeeAnn Pratt says

wow looks like it was a great time! One of my questions would be, as I have many..lol IS How crazy does it drive you when more than one character is demanding his/her story, and how do you choose which one gets their story told? Whoever is the loudest?..lol

  3. says

Oy – I never really asked anything other than MAY I PLEASE GET SOME BOOKS OR SWAG TO GIVE AWAY ON OUR BLOG / FB PAGE :)
I would be way too embarrassed to ask it face to face :)
But maybe – the most important thing for me would be to know how the Author imagines the main characters to look like – as in – they tell me the name of a famous person – :) that way I have a picture in my mind – and if it doesn’t agree with my picture – that’s ok too :) hehe

  4. sally says

can I have your autograph?… No really, I think it depends on the author. Sometimes I wonder how they came up with the story idea and sometimes I just want to know when the next book comes out! Thanks for the chance to win!

  5. Carol says

Who did you picture as you were writing about ____ (insert name of hot male character)? Or who would be your first choice to play him in a movie?

  6. Amanda Williamson says

I’m so glad you ladies follow your dreams and write. I thank you for it. I’m new to reading romance but I’m so glad I picked up my first book. It helps me make it through the troubles of life. The question I would ask is do you enjoy writing as much as we enjoy reading? Thanks again.

  7. LaVida Brisco says

Thank you for the giveaway. Looks like you had a ball. My favorite question to ask authors is whether or not they know the title of their book before or after he/she writes it.

  8. Robin Womack says

I live in MD about an hour away and I couldn’t make it. Really sucks because I so would love to meet you and Lexi Blake. Hopefully next year. I love your books and cannot wait for the next one.

  9. Erica Smith says

My favorite question to ask an author is usually about a secondary character in a series, finding out if there’s going to be a story for him/her in the future.

  10. Cathy Lasky says

I am fascinated with the story behind the stories. I love to hear how an idea came about, what inspires a writer, when did they decide to write. If I really enjoy a book, I love to read and hear anything I can about that author. I don’t know how to explain this correctly, but I find, if I know a little about the author I get more emotional and feel the characters of the book more so then one I read for just entertainment. Hope that made sense. Thank you for the opportunity to win.

  11. says

I always enjoy hearing about authors’ inspirations for characters, plots and stories.

My favorite questions to ask are:
    1. What author would you like to eat dinner with (alive or dead), and why?
    2. Who are your go-to authors and what was the last book you read?

Thank you for the opportunity to comment!

  12. Lisa Sharpton says

How do you even start? Do you have a general idea of how you want it to go or does the story progress as you write it?

  13. Rosemarie Novelo says

I always wanted to go to one of these. They look like so much fun. I’ve read a few of your books. My question would be ” which character from your books, would spend a fun day and why? “

  14. says

I would absolutely love to sit down, with cosmos and find out exactly what it takes to write a book that is as erotic and hot as you ladies make it! It looks like a great time was had by all–I especially love the corsets! Big fan of your books (I own them all on my Nook and they go with me to every hospital treatment!) It’s relief to know that these aren’t the Harlequin novels my mom used to read!!

  15. Kim Hobson says

I’ve always wanted to know how you come up with the characters and your story lines. I am a huge romance/paranormal romance fan.

    Thank you

  16. Jenni Jacobs says

I like asking authors about their inspiration for characters. Really anything to get them talking about my favorite book that that author wrote. I love discussing the ideas behind the story and the characters and the. Gushing over what parts I loved and I now I saw different things I the story. It makes me feel less nerdy when I have someone to talk passionately with about a book or a plot or anything that has to do with romance novels!
Seriously though I’m so jealous of all the people that got to go! Wish I could have been there, it looks and sounds like it was a load of fun!
    Have a great day,
    Jenni J.

  17. Kerry P says

How do you decide whether you are going to tell a story from only one character’s point of view versus several characters’ point of view?

  18. Nancy Milligan says

Your characters are so real. Do they come strictly from your imagination, or do you use bits and pieces of people you know?

  19. LK says

I’d be too nervous! I’m quite shy, you see! Ummm…..is there another genre that you’d like to write in the future?

  20. Lisa Sharpton says

Where do you start? Do you have a general idea of how you want the story to go or does the story progress as you write it?

  21. Nicole Laverdure says

But looking at your photos, you all seemed to have had lots of fun at the Weekend bash! How do you find inspiration to decide a story! Thank you for this giveaway!

  22. Maria Denmark says

What is the process like for co-writing a book? I also love to find out what books and authors my favorite authors enjoy.

  23. Michelle says

I had an amazing time at RAW. I think the pictionary was one of my favorites lol. Thank you to you and all the authors who took the time to go.

  24. Diana Merritt says

When you are writing the book do the characters often surprise you and the book takes on a new direction?

  25. Donna Reynolds says

What is your favorite way to write a story from one point of view or all points of view? I ask because I like all views and what makes you choose what to write about?

  26. Christina Lubinski says

When writing the book when do you realize its an on going series of books. Where do the characters come from.

  27. Brenda says

Is it always planned for secondary characters to be future main characters or in the process of creating a story do they insinuate themselves into an idea for a future book?

  28. Bec says

Do you only write one book at a time, or do you listen to the many main charactors you have and if they have a story to tell, you stop the one you were writing and let them have their time?

  29. Kimberley Coover says

    Looks like a fun time.

I always ask..” When is your next book coming out?” The answer is vital for me . LOL

  30. Tracy Gilpin says

Thanks for the chance. As to the question I would ask….it’s kind of a two parter. What was the favorite book you wrote and what was the favorite book you have ever read? I could also go with some of the questions already posted – like Brenda who asked are secondary characters planned on being future main characters or as you write do they take on a life of their own where you need to get their story done as well?

Again, thanks for the chance to win! :)

  31. Luisa andrade says

OMG …that looks like a great trip…I would love to win so much …what a great way to me your favorite writer

Thank you so much for a great work your all do

  32. Felicai says

How do you find the time to read a book by someone else when you work so hard to put out such great books? And do you ever get ideas from the books you read?

  33. Jennifer kent says

When writing a series of books, do you have the storyline planned out for each book right from the start? Or do you go book by book?

  34. Frances says

I just wanted to say that I really love the Breed series from Lora Leigh and all of Shayla Black’s books. The sexiness and hotness of the male characters are to die for!!! I always look forward to reading books from you guys.

As for my question, who is your favorite character?

  35. flchen1 says

Wow, thanks for the hitting the highlights, Shayla! I keep hearing great things about that weekend, and hope to be able to make it one of these years–I’d LOVE to meet some of you amazing authors in person! As for favorite question to ask an author, I’m not sure–there are so many, and each author obviously has different answers! I do like seeing whether an author’s based any characters on people s/he knows in real life, and whether anyone’s claimed to recognize him/herself from their writing :) Thanks for making time to answer fan questions AND for continuing to write those great stories!

  36. Kimberly Sgarbossa says

My favorite question to ask an author is what is your writing ‘playlist’ (if they have one)? I love hearing about what was playing while a book was being written!

I am a huge fan, thanks for continuing to write such amazing books!

  37. Linda Brashears says

My favorite question is (depending on the author and if they write erotica): How did you tell your family the type of books that you were going to start writing? And I love to read your books. They are really great books. Thanks for writing as much as you do. But another question I ask is: can’t you write just a little bit quicker? LOL I hate to finish one becuase I know how long I have to wait for another one.

  38. Nickie says

Looks like you ladies had a lot of fun!

My question would be, is there any consensual sex act that you won’t write about? And why not?

  39. Angie Turner says

When you write, do you “live in the story” as much as your readers do? If so, is it all consuming until you get it done or just bursts of inspiration? I know you can’t just write a book in one setting but is it always with you? :-)

  40. says

Where do you ladies get the ideas or inspiration when you write these love scenes because some of them are scorching HOT?!?!!?!?! Love all you beautiful ladies btw. Keep on writing because I will definitely kept on buying!!!

  41. says

Looks like you ladies had a blast! Sorry I missed out but hopefully next year is more promising for me in regards to attending conventions.

Series Question … If you have to pick one romantic scene or couple to recommend to a first time reader of your Wicked Lovers series, which or who would it be and why?

Random Question … What is the most unique or most ugliest item you own and why do you keep it?

Thanks for the opportunity for this awesome giveaway. You are awesome sauce and I love your books! 😀

  42. Lisa says

I think the question I would like to ask the most would be how do you come up with the idea’s to most of your books. As most of them are very erotic and I will say very pleasing to read and cover most of the fantasies most women have. I have read all of your books and Lora Leigh’s books along with many other authors as I tend to do nothing but read almost everyday. I really hope I win.

  43. susan trimnal says

I think recently my favorite question to ask would be if they ever get stuck and if so what do they do to help them get unstuck?

  44. Catherine Anderson says

Sounds like readers and authors alike had an amazing time, feeling quite jealous, but hopefully I can win some RAW goods and feel like I was there.

  45. Vandy B says

When you start writing a story, do you have an idea in your head and just start writing, or do you outline the story and then write based on that?

  46. Debbie Saraceni says

What a great giveaway….love both your books!!! :)
My question for an author would be: At what point in your life did you realize you wanted to be an author and was it a specific book that your read or was it something that happened in your life to lead you to it?

  47. Lori Lasson says

Love reading your wonderful stories. I too would like to know what your family members had to say when you revealed you were writing erotica?

  48. Hana P says

wohoo,, you all look good in the dress ^^ very sexy
I’m a fan from Indonesia. Look like you all have so much fun time
I thought authors just into the lappy n her minds(in a good things)
sooo i always wonder and asked ; what inspired you all(authors) to make such as great story in your books?
I always try to write something but always blank and don’t know how to started, the characters. And how to make the characters is strong enough to make readers love them~chemistry ,etc.
ok, thank you for the chance n happy working!

  49. Shaun Stanton Brinkhurst says

Thank you for the amazing giveaway from all of the authors – it is amazing the generosity of all of you!!!!

My question, is “How do you come up with ideas that you write about for the sexy scenes, as I know reading them sure helps in the bedroom for my husband and I, so where do you come up with the inspiration for those smoking hot scenes!! Just in your head or a little reality there!! LOL

  50. Jennifer says

Love seeing some of my favorite authors all together.
Hard to pick one question but If I could ask a question it would be “who are your
favorite authors & what is your favorite book?”
    or series”

  51. Michele H says

My question would be is what inspired you to start writing? Also, when you have “down time” who do you like to read?

  52. Carol Schaffer says

I always want to know ….Because you alls books are filled with hot ,caring Alpha males Do you or have you experienced your own Hot , Alpha male?

  53. Melissa Lamb says

My question would be… When you are writing a really emotional scene that gets to you, how do you cope after you have finished with that scene?

  54. Brandi Williams says

Which authors do you enjoy reading? (I read based on reviews…ALWAYS…and LOVE to get an author or book recommendation from another author!)

  55. Misty says

I’ve been going to multi-author signings lately with a lot of unknown to me authors. So I usually have been asking what it is they write about. But my follow up question is almost always “is it a stand alone?” Hmmm…so boring. Going to another signing this weekend, need to come up with better questions :)

  56. Linda Robinson says

Have you based any of your characters’ personalities on friends and/or family and did they know?
At what age did you realize you wanted to write and who is your favorite author?
    Reading is my true addiction.

  57. Blanche says

Great pics!! Besides wanting to know when the next book is out, I wonder, especially author’s who write series……when you are working on one book are you already thinking through or writing the next book for the next character in the series?

  58. Marie Brown says

I usually have one question for authors: What was your favorite author/book growing up and why? I am always curious to see what authors liked when they were young and what got them interested in reading to begin with. :) Thanks so much for this awesome chance to win. 😀

  59. Tina Miranda says

My question would be this: as actors look for inspiration in playing a character, what do you look for to inspire the creation of character(s) and the story line behind them?

  60. Gail Melton says

Looks like ya’ll had a great time!
    My questions
Are you going to keep a storyline going?
    What’s your favorite author?
Are you doing a signing closer to my hometown?

  61. kiki says

I had the best time at raw. Meeting all of you was so interesting. I was a con virgin lol but I felt soo welcome cant wait to go again next year. One thing I have to say is the fact that you all welcome us into your world and see how its the same world. My main question is about research do you see something and then it comes to you to fit a character or are certain aspects an interest of the authors to explore safely . Does that make sense ??

  62. Ana C says

I am so upset when I read about this genre of books and they refer to them as cheap or whatever comment meant to set low the bow for the job you writers have done. I have to say I do have read some cheesy books. Yours I love because I think they’re smart and really well done… and I love them, I have to say you do know how to make sexy well… Question is: What is your message for this people who just prejudge your books before even reading them…?

  63. Jessica B says

Sounds like a blast! so sorry that I couldn’t make it this year. . planning on trying to make it next year. I’m more for the art aspect of things and I love to ask if the author had any input on their covers. I also love to ask what their inspiration was on their books.

  64. Lheanne Spicer says

Looks like y’all had a great time and I LOVE all you girls books!! My question would be what gets you inspired to write a book?

  65. vashti says

First, let me say it was a pleasure to meet you this past summer at the Orlando Book ash and had a thrill speaking with you in the elevator.
My question is…What inspires your writing and does real life events mirror your books?

  66. Sue Lytle says

I really enjoy all your books! They are automatic buys. Do you think of any person when you draft a character? Like a model, actor, friend?

  67. judy says

Looks like it was a great time….it would be so much fun to meet you.

    My Question
If you could meet any of your own characters, who would it be? & Why??

  68. Beth says

I just want to say, I love all of your books that I have read. My husband, has been reaping the benefits from some of them.

Are you planning a trip to south Florida (Palm Beach) area any time soon?

  69. LISA CASEY says

I love all of your books! Looks like you girls had a blast!!

I read both of your books and love them and would love the opportunity to win a bag of goodies…i am reading 12 shades of surrender right now and loving it…thanks for the giveaway

  71. Deb Vamosi says

You are all authors on my “go-to” list! I can hardly wait for new books. I know I’ll always have something to read that I enjoy and that is written well!!! Though I’m all for digital self-publishing (I have three books out myself) I don’t like the lack of editing and lack of grammar that is sometimes found in these books. I never have to worry about that with you all. Thanks for keeping me entertained!!

  72. Pollyanna says

When is your next book coming out? And are you going to have virtual signing? Very few author’s come to Alaska :(

  73. Samantha H. says

I also enjoyed meeting you last year at Lora Leigh’s 2012 RAW!

  74. Corinne McCann says

I had such a great time at Raw this year. It was really great to meet you and all my other favorite authors and made some new ones. What inspires you to write such good stories with great plots and the hot scenes in them?

  75. says

I love all of your books! I would love to write but I don’t know if I can write a full book without running out of “words”. What do you do when you get writer ‘s block?

  76. Debi D says

I always get stage fright when I get up to ask a question, I hate it when that happens!

    1. What the most fun about “research”?

  80. Sonia Forbus says

sounds like a good time was had by all. Question maybe i shouldn’t ask but ,does your partner benefit from the love scenes? i knew i shouldn’t ask :-) :-(
